About Glynis Abrahams
Glynis has more than 20 years’ work experience in the communications industry and is skilled in a number of areas of the communications discipline, thereby making Connectiv Communications Consultants a full-service Public Relations consultancy.
She started her PR career in an agency environment, being integrally involved in strategic PR planning, corporate- and brand reputation management, and the tactical implementation of PR across a broad range of clients. In profiling the clients she worked on, she also developed a sound understanding of working with news and business media.
Clients ranged from the from tourism and hospitality sector clients to retail sector clients, amongst others.
Glynis has gained extensive experience in processes and procedures around forming public/private partnerships, developed with the aim of achieving inner city rejuvenation and social and economic upliftment. Exposure to projects in the Cape Town and Stellenbosch CBDs, as well as suburbs such as Greenpoint, Oranjezicht, and others, has also helped her gain insight into the workings of government at local, provincial and national levels.
She was one of the key team members to manage launch communications around the establishment of the Cape Town Partnership – one of the first organisations formed in Cape Town to address economic and social decline of the inner city. Following the success of the Cape Town Partnership, a number of improvement districts came about – initially focused in the Cape Town CBD and immediate surrounds. She was also a core team member in the development of these improvement districts. Today, the concept of improvement districts is prevalent in most business areas in Cape Town.
She joined one of the largest retailers in South Africa in 2007 as senior PR manager for fashion and beauty. Glynis also managed PR and communications for one of its CSI projects, i.e. the Making the Difference through Design programme, as well as their sponsorship of Design Indaba.
She was a member of the team responsible for launching their premium brands into South Africa and managed communications around the re-launches of their denim and lingerie brands.
Since starting Connectiv Communications Consultants, she has had exposure to, and gained experience in, the insurance, education, manufacturing, construction, hospitality, and online retail sectors.
Glynis is also an Executive on the Board of the Walking with Brandon Foundation responsible for corporate and brand communications.
